about

All poems by Lynn Skapyak Harlin, read by the poet

Lynn Skapyak Harlin, is a poet, writer and an editor.

For four years, at the Florida Heritage Book Festival, she led a Poetry Workshop with Sharon Scholl and Carolee Bertisch. Lynn presented her work at First Coast Writers Conference and at the National Institute of Critical Thinkers in Boston, San Francisco and Chicago. Her programs and poetry have been presented all over the country.

As a reporter and photojournalist for publications in South Georgia and North Florida she tackled subjects as diverse as restaurant reviews, community features and crime news. A freelance writer for thirty years, her writing has been published in textbooks, trade magazines, literary magazines, newspaper articles and features.

Her first published poem, “War Waste,” appeared in Time, (December 7,1970). Her poems have appeared in The Aquarian, Gate, State Street Review, Shakespeare’s Cat Café, Arbus, Women’s Voices, Section Eight Magazine, Florida Speaks, AC PAPA (Ancient City Poets, Authors, Photographers and Artists), and on the web, deadpaper.org and ashandbones.com.

Two chapbooks of Lynn's poetry, Real Women Drive Trucks (1997) and Press One for More Options (1997) were published by Closet Books. Her chap book, Age Changes (2017) was published by Happy Tapir Books. Her collection of 90 poems, Twists and Turns (2019) was published by Hidden Owl Press.

For 17 years she held writers’ workshops on her Shantyboat docked at Seafarers Marina on the Trout River. In 2017 Hurricane Irma destroyed her beloved refuge and left only the back deck and the gangway.

Lynn lives in Jacksonville, Florida with her husband, Jim Harlin, and her standard poodle, Beau Brummel, where she continues to write and rewrite her poems. She now conducts writers’ workshops in her home and measures her success by the progress of her writers.
